They should try passing --disable-final to configure to compile file by file. 
Slower but better to find out what's going wrong where. I would even pass 
that by default as --enable-final isn't supposed to be a very supported 
feature anyway and is known to cause problems, so even if it works flawless 
on i386 in most cases I wouldn't use it on other platforms or buildd's where 
it's very time-consuming to find out the real errors.
