What I did for Solr 1.3 was to look in the log files where it got stuck, add those permissions, and try again. Solr needs quite a lot of PropertyPermissions.

I think policy says that all jars that may be used by other applications should go to /usr/share/java. A few documentation things I think should be done: - note which contrib libraries (e.g. no extraction/Solr Cell/tika) are included - update orig-tar, get-orig-source (or remove both because git handles all that) - update README.source, on how to create the ds1.orig.tar.gz, or 'upstream' branch, from the Apache tarball.
