So then I updated my Sun 1.4 JDK, building and installing a package using "java-package". I even made Sun's java and javac the default alternative. When I run elipse, it does a probe for VMs, finding only /usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj. OK, so I went into preferences to add the sun JRE. I add the JRE, but it doesn't "stick": when I go back into preferences, it is no longer listed. There's an exception in the log (attached). Anyone got any ideas? Thanks, -Steve P.S. I'm starting with a clean slate by the way: I blew away ~/.eclipse and ~/workspace.
