Interesting thing is that gcl/maxima works (using the same mechanism) -- maybe only by luck. I can disable this, but it will decrease performance significantly. Might be easier in the short run to just build the package by hand and upload -- the 'build' target doesn't need fakeroot, and this is where the tests run. This is a bug in fakeroot, right? Aren't there other fakeroot-like package installation mechanisms that could be tried?
