Hello, My name is Ioan Eugen STAN and I want to participate in Debian gsoc. I was involved in Squeeze (and Lenny) release notes localization for Romanian and translated some po-debconf's. During this time I got in touch with how things are going and I noticed that things need to be improved in i18n.
My first ideea was to try to improve online translation by either installing a replacement for pootle. I was thinking of Narro [0], [1], an online translation tool that has very good features and I belive can integrate well with Debian. It's mainly used by Mozzila [2] and Free Software Group [3] (Romanian supporters of free software). I already tried to introduce [2] for translatin d-i but l10n romanian contributors to d-i prefer the mailing list and syncing the translations from narro to dtp svn was difficult because we did not have write permission. I think narro can be integrated well with dtp infrastructure (for people who like to use both mailing list and online translation tools). I ave contacted the developer of the project for help and he said he will help with integration if problems arise, but he is not available for adding new features. While researching the ideea I also found that there was some interest in doing something similar [4]. After the release of Squeeze I noticed there are problems regarding dtp and i18n infrastructure [5]. I am looking for a mentor to sponsor my ideea but I am open to new ideeas regarding i18n improvement as I am not very familiar with the internals of the project. I also plan to get more involved in Debian in the future and this seems like a good start.
