If we won't even set a default prompt, what business do we have doing
things like:

(/etc/init.d/netbase)

spoofprotect () {
    if [ -e /proc/net/ip_input ]; then
        echo -n "Setting up IP spoofing protection..."

This may very well lead people to believe they have some sort of
protection against spoofing attacks.  

If we are going to go with what we think are reasonable defaults,
fine, but let's be consistent.
