What gives? However, more diagnosing work is needed to identify where the problem lies. Please try general troubleshooting: different audio systems, check what ALSA has to say, try PulseAudio, and maybe try a newer or older kernel version. You can find help with these things at other venues listed at https://www.debian.org/support - especially IRC, the mailing lists or http://forums.debian.net/ .
