Aesthetically, I find symlinks for /bin etc., in combination with all binaries in /usr/bin, to be prettier than the current situation. (I'd find all binaries in /bin to be prettier still, but Simon explained why that won't work) But we should not make a decision based purely on aesthetics, which are individual preference anyway.
