So far as I know, /etc as a separate filesystem isn't supported by any init system or by initramfs-tools. (Roger Leigh did some work on it but it was not completed and it needed extra kernel parameters.) Ben. -- Ben Hutchings All the simple programs have been written, and all the good names taken.
