Oh, but of course these features are optional. You can still run GNOME without any of them. I can’t guarantee this will be a pleasant experience, but maybe you manage your device groups yourself, do not care about user switching, and do every operation needing temporary privilege escalation in a root terminal. If you want to get logind split out and working without systemd as init, just go ahead and show us the code, nobody is stopping you.
