I have a few questions. First, to repeat the original question, will we be seeing Upstart 1.4 in Debian experimental or unstable?
Second, I would be interested in reading a good technical comparison of Upstart and systemd. Does anyone have a URL for me? I know the System V init system fairly well but I am new to both Upstart and systemd. Obviously the two are similar insofar as they are both able to supersede SysV init. But my newbie impression is that the two are fundamentally different, Upstart being event-oriented and Systemd state-oriented from the user's point of view. So the choice between the two isn't just a matter of taste. Analogy: We want to rewrite an ancient line-numbered BASIC program and now have a choice between Python and Prolog. One of the two languages is likely to be better suited to the task at hand. Which is why I'd like to see a good, objective technical comparison. Or perhaps each language would be best suited to part of the task formerly performed by the BASIC program. Which raises a third question: is there any point in using *both* Upstart and systemd? Example off the top of my head: Upstart takes care of early boot and starts systemd which in turn starts service daemons. Does this make any sense, and if so, what would be the advantages and disadvantages of this? -- Thomas Hood -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-devel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
