That is down to the gdb manpage, not every single -dbg package in the entire archive IMHO. There are other sources of info too, like the Wiki. http://wiki.debian.org/HowToGetABacktrace > > There could be even a use case how to start debugging some of the > > programs, like "convert". Once the -dbg packages are installed: $ gdb /usr/bin/convert The rest is down to the gdb manpage, no? gdb does all the work of locating /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/convert, hence all such files are mode 0644. > The problem here is that we have a lot of -dbg packages on Debian, all > of them containing binaries under /usr/lib/debug/ > Do we need the same README file on all of them? Jari, I don't see how any package other than gdb can provide the information you seek. Yes the gdb manpage can appear scary but that isn't the fault of any of the -dbg packages. It's equivalent to asking every package contaning a PNG image to document how to view a PNG image in eog or gimp. -- Neil Williams ============= http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ http://e-mail.is-not-s.ms/
