Package: general Severity: normal Many Java packages work successfully with a headless JRE; that is, one that does not support graphics. However, some of these packages depend on java?-runtime instead of java?-runtime-headless. As a consequence, graphical JREs are installed when they are not needed (such as on servers).
Java applications and libraries that correctly function with a headless JRE should depend only on such a JRE, possibly with a recommends or suggests on a graphical JRE if the program can benefit from it. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.31-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- brian m. carlson / brian with sandals: Houston, Texas, US +1 713 440 7475 | http://crustytoothpaste.ath.cx/~bmc | My opinion only OpenPGP: RSA v4 4096b 88AC E9B2 9196 305B A994 7552 F1BA 225C 0223 B187
