There's already a massively improved evdev driver written by our own Zephaniah E. Hull which allows this. There's been further work done by both Zephaniah and (also our own) Daniel Stone to implement this in the server. The new evdev driver is available and I'll be shipping it with 7.1 (possibly even before) while Daniel's patch is currently undergoing review and should be made available soon.
