--- Begin Message ---Package: tech-ctte Severity: normal Hi all, here's my understanding of the state of our "TC chair appointment" discussion. In June 2014, in <21420.15439.20061.525...@chiark.greenend.org.uk>, Ian described a problem he wanted to see fixed in the constitution: Le jeudi, 26 juin 2014, 16.29:19 Ian Jackson a écrit : > The TC chair arrangements have what is arguably a bug, which is that > the TC cannot change a sitting chair other than by the chair resigning > or leaving the committee. > > I think the TC chair should be reappointed regularly (annually?), and > that a new chair election should be held when the TC composition > changes. > > If we are having a formal TC member retirement scheme, and TC chair > election when a new member is appointed, then perhaps making explicit > provision for time-based chair retirement is unnecessary. As far as I could find, this mail didn't get answered, either way, let's use this bug to consider this proposal. Cheers, OdyX

--- Begin Message ---We have committed the following to git: Appointment of the Chair of the CTTE ------------------------------------ In general, the procedure in §6.1.7 should be followed. Re-appointment of chair after membership change =============================================== When new members are appointed to the CTTE or within three months of a member resigning from the CTTE, the current chairperson should announce their intention to vacate the position within two weeks. This will force a new election to which all members of the CTTE (including the vacating chair if the chair is still a member) are eligible. -- Don Armstrong http://www.donarmstrong.com
