We really need to get a proper vote on this written on paper. We really do. It's the case where we need a direction and we need some body (frankly, at this point, it doesn't matter who) to say "This is the init system for jessie on Linux" > So the only unsettled question today is whether, and how, maintainers should > be allowed to add dependencies on specific init systems. And if maintainers > find themselves blocked on this, well, it's because they should block on > it... I'd say we let maintainers resolve this themselves, and if there's a dispute between maintainers, raise that dispute to the ctte and get a ruling on that. I don't like assuming our maintainers aren't fit to make sound technical decisions regarding this as of yet. I also trust maintainers to accept sound patches fixing such lock-in.
