You probably know that other users on the same platform reported that they could use Iceweasel with no problem. I therefore will try to look for a common denominator to your installations. Can you save the output of the command 'dpkg -l' on your system, send it to me (in private if you want to preserve your privacy), and tell me if you installed third-party software? I will actually try to reproduce the bug on fresh installs with the same package combination.
