Since anki would just display the characters that are entered, I strongly suspect the error to be in the font. You can change the font anki uses for the cards in "card layout". Easiest way in this instance is to go into the item browser, select the problematic card and then use the card layout button there. There will be a preview of this card and you can choose a another font there to see the difference.
