Package: spamassassin
Version: 3.3.2-2
Severity: normal
The update feature in /etc/default/spamassassin
CRON=1
Seems to have associating
/etc/cron.daily/spamassassin
If you happen to have compiled rules with:
sa-compile
The cron process causes extremely heavy daily load for the server
because:
After each update, it compiles the rules
In a small server this takes considerable time
=> load on server rockets after update to sky high
=> which leads to Exim/spamassassin spamd connection timeouts
=> which leads to accepting spam *daily*
SUGGESTION
Please move the cron job from /etc/cron.daily/ to /etc/cron.weekly/
for better overall effifiency[*].
[*] The bayes is already learning everyday, so it's not critical to
receive updates every day.
