I would have thought "cannot render raw PostScript" would be enough. The problem is that the error can also be caused by gs not having that device. Of course, in that case, image inclusion will not work either. I'll see what I can do.
It seems that turning on hyperref support in LyX causes this. I am attaching a fairly minimal testcase.
Probably hyperlinks are introduced as small PostScript snippets that do not generate any image output at all. There may be a solution for that particular case, I'll have a look. Thanks for the testcase.
