Hello; I'm the upstream maintainer of deja-dup.

I have historically focused on the single-user, backup-my-personal
data use case.  Though, I would like to server the backup-my-box use
case as well; it just hasn't been a priority.  That might mean
particularly clever actions like storing a list of installed packages,
or at least asking for sudo privileges to be able to read files.
(There's a bug about that -- asking for sudo [1].)  Asking for sudo
would cover the deja-dup-monitor case, as mentioned.

But I think I'd like to support that in a more integrated fashion than
an extra menu item.  Maybe just ask for sudo when non-HOME directories
are included.  I encourage you to comment on the ask-for-sudo bug [1]
if you have ideas.
