Package: texlive Version: 2007.dfsg.2-1~lenny2 Severity: important
The problem occurs on a 1GHz VIA Esther processor. My other computer does not have this problem. After a standard install of texlive in Debian, 'tex' and 'pdftex' take minutes to complete. Not just the first time. Every invocation of 'tex' takes minutes, even when the source-file contains only the single command "\bye". CPU is close to 100% during the operation. 'reportbug' says my architecture is "i386 (i686)", this may be part of the problem. If my tex-binary has been compiled for 386, it would be slower than neccessary. But even that wouldn't explain how tex can be _so_ slow. I would love to help track this down. I don't expect many people use tex on this processor.
