        OK. The way I see it is that there was no initrd handler that
 worked in /etc/kernel. I'll leave this bug open until I upload a
 version with more clarity in the man page for make-kpkg.

        The second issue with the removal is partially
 - legitimate warning about a non-empty lib/modules subdirectory,
   which is not a bug
 - a file from initramfs-tools that did not deal with an initrd file
   that was already remvoved, or otherwise missing.

        The second issue can not be fixed in kernel-package, I would
 suggest you file a bug with initramfs-tools with the details.
