No sorry, this is functions as designed. We (and upstream) have the
opinion that the doc is an required part of a TeX installation. If
you really don't need the documentation you can use apt to install
the packages. Eventually you need to set the following option:
APT
{
Recommends "false";
}
in /etc/apt/apt.conf.
