Right, that’s because the OSS emulation layer is not loaded by default
any more.

I have made libesd-alsa0 the default in the new esound version, but the
version in lenny/unstable is utterly broken.

Again, I don’t think anyone in the team is interested enough in system
sounds to work on them.
