Note: I'm filing this against sugar as I'm not sure which package is responsible for the behaviour shown (or rather not shown). Feel free to reassign. Using the sugar packages from sid (the ones currently in lenny are broken, as reported in other bugs), I was able to get sugar working fine locally (as far as I tested it, at least). But collaboration with other users isn't working at all. I've set the Jabber server to schoolserver.media.mit.edu in the Control Panel (which works fine with the Live CD from [1]), but cannot see any other user in the Neighborhood View. To gather further info, I tried: 1. strace'ing the telepathy-salut started by sugar: nothing happening after startup (which I missed, of course). 2. starting a telepathy-salut with debug output enabled: exits before sugar is fully up&running. 3. installing and using Empathy to see whether the bug is in sugar or in telepathy: Empathy (with a single Salut account configured, no option to select a Jabber server) cannot change to "Available" status (see [2], bug report still to be filed) and the debug information gathered so far don't provide any insight on the cause of the problems.
