Do you have gnome-volume-manager installed, which version?

Please check, if there are any running instances of gnome-volume-manager.
# ps aux | grep gnome-volume-manager
If there is none, this might already be your problem.
If gnome-volume-manager is running, kill it
# killall gnome-volume-manager
and run it with the following arguments:
# gnome-volume-manager -no-daemon

Then plug in removable devices and check the output on stdout and attach it to
this bug report.
