My request: It would be great if cp -h or --hash printed progress indicators (e.g. hash marks like rpm does, or a nice bar with a time-remaining display like wget's). Optional extra: Also, it would be nice if the bar was cleared and the cursor restored to its original place at the end of the copy operation, to save space onscreen. Optional extra 2: Every 1 second during multi-file copies, cp could print the name of the current file being copied so that users have something to stare at during the copy. -- Jason Spiro: computer consulting with a smile.
