Package: inn2
Severity: wishlist
Hi,
if one keeps logs around for a long time, the old logs directory can
get pretty big. With the log rotation scheme done by
/usr/lib/news/bin/scanlogs, all logs are backed up each day, and they
are flagged as "new/changed" in any checksum based intrusion detection.
Please consider chaning the log rotation scheme in a way that allows
logs to be rotated to logname.YYYYMMDD, which has the advantage of a
log file - once rotated - not being touched again.
Do the INN scripts ever need logs from ${MOST_LOGS}/OLD, or can I
freely rename and/or remove them?
Would you be willing to consider a patch to /usr/lib/news/bin/scanlogs
that offers the date-based rotationscheme as a configurable alternative?
Greetings
Marc
