A regression appears to have been introduced between Debian kernel versions 6.12.96-1 and 6.12.100-1. Hardware and software: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 NVIDIA proprietary driver 550.163.01-4~bpo13+1 KDE Plasma/KWin 6.3.6 Debian 13 amd64 Steam Proton 10 and Proton 11 Steps to reproduce: Boot Debian with linux-image-6.12.100+deb13-amd64. Log in to a KDE Plasma Wayland session. Start The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered through Steam Proton. Load a saved game and open the in-game map. Actual result: The game freezes whenever the in-game map is opened. Expected result: The map should open normally. Comparison: Kernel 6.12.100 with Wayland: freezes with Proton 10 and Proton 11. Kernel 6.12.100 with X11: works correctly. Kernel 6.12.96 with Wayland: works correctly with Proton 11. The same hardware, userspace, NVIDIA driver and game installation were used. Changing only the kernel from 6.12.100 to 6.12.96 resolves the problem. Kernel 6.12.100 has since been removed because kernel 6.12.96 is required as the working kernel. The system information below therefore shows the currently running 6.12.96 kernel.
