Thanks for all of the guidance! I actually started running the experimental 7.2 kernel yesterday and I _think_ it fixed the issue, presumably due to the attached patch. I'm going to switch over to a patched 7.1.5 kernel to see if it is indeed the attached patch that is the fix.
(It's difficult to be certain that it's fixed without a few days of usage, so I'll check in again after a better level of confidence.)
