retitle 376387 netbase is essential
severity serious
thanks - (hopefully you agree with that)

1. It was my fault (/etc/network/interfaces was missing).
BUT
2. if netbase isn't installed (and therefore the script /etc/init.
d/networking) the interfaces doesnt get loaded automatically
(especially loopback).

So I can have a full kde + xorg + etc system WITHOUT netbase
installed (nothing depends on netbase), and in this case the loopback
device (needed for many apps) doesn't get loaded at all!

So either you make netbase essential (and maybe remove inetd
dependencies or something oike that) or I have to file serious bugs
to many packages because they don't depend on netbase ... your choice
:)

Christoph

netbase does not "load" interfaces.
Looks like your system is misconfigured.
