While I understand the frustration of some people with some of the architectures that we have in Debian, trying to support architectures is part of what makes Debian Debian. If you're fine with supporting R itself so far, don't proactively drop support for it.
r-base is a key package (some r-cran packages are as well by the way, by the looks via r-recommended), it's extra work (typically not trivial) to remove it. It probably requires also changes to how some of our desktop environment manage their dependencies if it wouldn't force them out completely on those architectures. Please contact the porters before you do that.
