Hi All,

With the trixie freeze dates being announced today I just wanted
to touch base on this one and see how the ticket is progressing.

We seem to be in agreement that the SONAME should match upstream
in the absence of a direct need for a Debian-specific SONAME. The
question now is one of when this change should be implemented.

I'm of the opinion that we should get this in sooner rather than
later, else we'll be stuck for _another_ five years (or more) with
the the resulting binary software incompatibilities.

There's no reason to expect any breakage resulting from this
change - the code is staying the same, we'll just need to
adjust any dependencies that look for the Debian SONAME
specifically.

Cheers,

Matt.
