I didn't think this matters, sorry. I'm using the mozilla-acroread from ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/. When I talked about "purging", I meant "aptitude purge mozilla-acroread". However, this bug report is not about the plugin, it is about firefox and its ignoring of a setting I made.
