Are you logging in to gdm, or some other display manager?
Did you upgrade gdm, gnome-session and gnome-settings-daemon at the same
time you upgraded mutter and GNOME Shell?
After upgrading to GNOME 3.34, did you reboot the whole system, restart
gdm, or neither?
(I ask because I had trouble with the lock screen after a similar upgrade,
which was resolved by rebooting.)
