Well, on my machine (IBM ThinkPad T42p with ATI FireGL 2 - M10) nothing changes: with or without the "dri" module in xorg.conf X.Org 6.9 freezes. Actually, with the "dri" module in xorg.conf (and note [1]), X.Org 6.9 doesn't start either, i.e. I got the black screen as soon as xdm starts or I manually start X. I previously reported that rc3 works as expected and I was wrong: X freezed as well, while with 6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 I've no problems since this morning. So, I'd say that I'm experiencing two bugs: the first is a general X.Org freezing (withouth DRI enabled or with DRI enabled and no "radeon" kernel module), the second is a specific problem with the DRI r300 driver (this should be bug #345929 [2]). If needed, ask for all necessary informations. Thx, bye, Gismo / Luca [1] I tried with xlibmesa-dri and libgl1-mesa-dri, but no differences. Moreover, I don't know why r300_dri.so is not present in xlibmesa-dri, since X.Org 6.9 ships it: http://wiki.x.org/wiki/ChangesSince68 [2] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=345929
