Well that's the point...

As you say the init script is just a wrapper...

So shouldn't we stick with the native upstream name for the config file
(i.e. ejabberdctl.cfg) and drop the symlink altogether, or make at
least /etc/default/ejabberd the symlink?


Compare it to e.g. rndc from bind9. It's (IIRC) also used by the init
script for starting/stopping/etc., nevertheless, we don't move rndc's
default config to /etc/default/bind9
