Running kbuildsycoca4 / kbuildsycoca5 force an upgrade. /usr/bin/xdg-desktop-menu seems to have a "user" and "system" mode and have many DE-specific heuristics, but never seems to call kbuildsycoca4; so I guess it doesn't refresh what I need. I don't know if Gnome is affected.
