For future reference, upstream author indicates that dvipsnam.def will be the first preference in a future version rather than xcolors.sty: http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/dvipng/2013-06/msg00009.html.
One might want to ensure that the dependency will then be corrected accordingly if necessary.
