Agreed for the g-c-c bit, I think that should be sufficient for most cases.

As for the integration of search into GNOME: do you know if the Overview
mode allows to use tracker in 3.8?

I'm wondering, if we should install something like [1] by default in the
GNOME Shell session?

I'm inclined to agree, even if this means that in non-GNOME environments
 you'd have to manually install tracker-gui.
