I have just finished trying to reproduce the issue and no dice. Tried returning to radeon, unblacklisting it, restoring my xorg.conf and then going to +point-1. No dice - flawless. I can only assume it was either some obscure configuration I had that +exp1 corrected (and both +point-1 and I let slide) or something went horribly wrong during the installation process. I'm sorry if I wasted anyone's time - it seemed clear it was a bug when +exp1 corrected it with no config change at all needed.
