Yes of course. But gpgme give the hability to use gpg agent which is really
useful: no need to type the passphrase for each signed mail, package signing,
...
You need to have a configured gnupg agent for it to work but you can
enable/disable this at runtime.

It is a 2 lines patch:
Add libgpgme11-dev in the Build-Depends and add --enable-gpgme in rules
