Can you explain why ifup/ifdown is not available in the shell during install but after reboot? Is the ifupdown package part of the network install? BTW: I did try the netinst CD several times both rescue and install, without any luck with the network. Another question: Why to go through the same menu in rescue mode as in install? Normally you want to fix things in a shell, like writing the MBR, check disks, edit fstab etc. In this case you don't primarily need the network! > Please describe the hardware that you use. Kernels are 2.6.17-1-686 and 2.5.15-1-486 (netinst kernel). I was recommended to use the irqpoll option for the boot but did not have to use this switch before.
