Thanks, Debian-installer-version: pre-rc2 on Nov 6th 2004 uname -a: <The result of running uname -a on a shell prompt> Date: Nov 6th approx 12:30pm GMT Method: Booted network install from CD. Network install from uk mirror Machine: Customer i386 arch machine Processor: Intel P4 2.4Ghz Memory: 1Gb Root Device: SCSI? /dev/hdb Root Size/partition table: /dev/hdb2 mounted as / and /dev/hdb5 or hd6 as swap Output of lspci and lspci -n: Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot worked: [O] Configure network HW: [O] Config network: [O] Detect CD: [O] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Create file systems: [O] Mount partitions: [O] Install base system: [O] Install boot loader: [O] Reboot: [E] Comments/Problems: I repartitioned the hard drive and selected UK/British English. Apart from that everything else was automatic. Please note that I was able to resolve the issue by booting into the installation using KNOPPIX and upgrading the kernel image to kernel-image-2.4.27-1-686-smp. This leads me to suspect a problem with the kernel image deb, possibly the initrd image since it seems to fail at the point of booting the kernel after the initrd part. Hope the above info is useful. Please get in touch if you require more info.
