What kind of automatic install? If you're using preseeding: d-i netcfg/get_hostname string unassigned-hostname d-i netcfg/get_domain string unassigned-domain This will cause the questions to be marked as seen, so they are not asked. Netcfg will still fill in reasonable defaults from DNS. It's possible to do fully noninteractive d-i installs using preseeding, as documented in the installation manual. -- see shy jo
