Hi Andre, I may be wrong. But I have a similar problem. My setup is: Gigabyte 8I875 with hda: Maxtor 6Y160PO 160GB PATA disk hdc: HL-DL-ST GSA-4081B DVD-RAM drive hdd: Yamaha CRW-F1E CD-R/RW drive If the machine is "warm", frequently only LG drive has a trouble. BIOS recognize it, but kernel fails. But if machine is really "cold", it usually won't miss it. I housed the system in a big tower case; thus cooling is not much problem: just wait for a couple of hours. Strangely, Windows never misses it. I think the problem is in one of 4 areas. Cable, M/B, Drive, and/or kernel. And I am very suspicios about M/B. Thus recently I have decided to go for Abit, Asus, or Tyan M/B, but not others. Sorry to Giga fans, but reliability weighs heavier than the abundant selection and price. Of course, I am writing this on GA-8I875.
