Well, it does probably recognize what the right kernel is, but as only the 386 kernel is available on the netinst iso, no other kernels are offered (mirrors are not used at that stage when installing from the netinst iso). As I replied earlier, the best way currently to check if automatic kernel selection works during installation is to use the businesscard iso. If that fails to select the correct kernel, please do send /proc/cpuinfo (in a new bug report).
