for real and not only want to do d-i testing!

I would download one of the inofficial net-install images for woody and also
go for woody during installation when it comes to choosing the distribution.
Afterwards do change "stable" to "testing" in your /etc/apt/sources.list
file, and then
# apt-get update
# apt-get dist-upgrade
Do this before you install any additional software, so you don't have to pull
some stuff twice. Oh, and, during installation, leave out the dselect
and tasksel steps. Better install aptitude by "apt-get install aptitude" after
you did the above mentioned dist-upgrade, but this is only my personal opinion
about the dselect and the tasksel tools, but obviously some people seem to
share this opinion with me (or better, I share it with them).
As I said before, I don't have any experience with the net install images. But
this is probably the safest way and should lead to success without further
hassles. But if you want to go for absolutely sure, download the full CD-Images, but
then
you have to download several CD's since the different boot flavors are on
different discs AFAIR.

No use anymore for the old one. If you want to go for sure, wipe it out before
you do a fresh install with some cool tools (dd or the like). But you can also choose
to totally repartition during the new install, this will wipe the partition table
anyway,
and the following formatting should do the rest ;)

which makes the purpose of the d-i test images more clear?
