with the example failure I pointed to in that including this line: https://salsa.debian.org/philh/cdebconf/-/jobs/6829946#L3432 with the complaint about it not being a directory. I'm just not immediately remembering the details of the fix, and haven't got time to remind myself just now, so thought I'd fire off a quick mail in case it's obvious to someone else.
